Before going into the history of jackets in detail, let’s briefly discuss what jackets are and their uses. So without further ado, let’s jump into the bandwagon.

What is Jacket?

A jacket is generally defined as a garment for the upper body, usually having open from the front, collar, lapels, sleeves, and two or more pockets. You can also say that jacket is something worn or fastened around the body but not for use as clothing, or a jacket may also be described as a garment for the upper body. It is usually extended below the hips. These are made up of different materials. 

Uses of Jackets

When it comes to the winter season, nothing works like jackets can do. When we think about getting warmth in the winter months, the first answer to our mind is a jacket. Jackets are primarily made for hard cold materials to protect the body from the harshness of the cold weather. There are a lot of warm benefits that a jacket provides.

In the present age of fashion, jackets have also become a part of our stylish clothing. Now, people of all age groups wear worm and stylish jackets for a stylish look. Mens suede jacket is trending, or you can try out any other material.

History of Jackets

Just like the other pieces of clothing, the jacket has an important place in history. In the beginning, the jackets were not considered and accepted as part of clothing. People were also reluctant to wear the new style of upper coat. 

As we progressed to the Middle Ages, it became a popular part of clothing for style and safety from the cold weather. Finally, in the middle of the 18th century, classic jackets were introduced by designers. 

The British navy also started popularization of jackets at that time. This jacket was the version of the coat designed for naval duties. This was used as a part of the navy uniform.

In the middle ages, the world was making rapid progress in fashion and design. During the medieval era, when clothing distinguished the classes, rich men and women had no choice but to wear jackets because of their rugged ‘poor’ appearance. 

Later on, when women started riding horses, they started to wear jackets as we see people wear jackets in the present age. However, those jackets were not worn casually because people had not yet accepted the new clothing style. Commonly, they were called Labels. 

After that, in 1931, the U.S military introduced jackets for their troops named the Bomber Jacket. Firstly the Bomber Jackets were made from the sealskin, and it was the best cloth to save the human body from the cold weather. However, as the availability of the seal’s skin was got short, then other animal skin took its place of it.

In the 1950s, the Bomber Jackets were made from nylon and polyester materials. During the medieval era, clothing was not distinguished according to the men’s and women’s styling. It only made a class statement. 

During the renaissance, both men and women started dressing up differently. However, during the 1980s, there was a great revolution seen in fashion and design. As a result, the demand for stylish clothes increased from each age group and class.

How Jackets Became Popular?

The first made jacket appeared in a movie in 1928. Irving Scott was the first person to introduce the jacket in the film. The first jacket was named Perfecto by Irving Scott. People started trending to wear jackets after watching the movie while riding bikes.

Many actors and celebrities started to make it a trend to wear stylish jackets in the next movies and TV series. This trend inspired the people a lot, and jackets began to be a part of dresses by the people.

In the beginning, many the magazines like Corriere Delle Dame first showed the women’s jacket as a stylish upper coat. However, people who loved to read magazines were also attracted to wearing stylish jackets after reading the advertisement and seeing the photos of the jackets worn by their favorite celebrities.

Later in 1935, Adam Magazine’ a popular magazine, called the jacket a type of coat having no tail. In short, Movies, Magazines, and TV series played a very important role in introducing jackets to people. Men’s jackets are a must-have item in any guy’s wardrobe.
